Per your request, Ausmus Engineering has completed the structural observation of the
foundation's footings for the proposed two story residence with concrete slab foundation.
It appears that approximately 1/3 of the excavation site is comprised of uncemented
Redtough loam while nearly 2/3rds of the site is comprised of native 6"-8" cobble
cemented in a sand alluvium derived from volcanic rock. This native material- makes
footing excavation extremely difficult.
This cemented material is considered an excellent substrate for the dead and live load for
footings and need not be excavated and removed. However, sufficient lateral loads must
be provided using epoxied dowels into these areas.
Please find the attached detail to provide to your inspector for his approval. Feel free to
