SHE HELPED WRITE THE WHO’S VACCINE MESSAGING — THENTOOK THE COVID SHOT AND HER LIFE COLLAPSED By Vlad Tepes September 23, 2026 When Patricia Leidl testified at the Allison Inquiry in Ottawa on September 10, 2026, she brought a credential that no one else in the room could claim. She had spent years inside the World Health Organization writing about vaccines. She had drafted the WHO’s State of the World Vaccines and Immunization report. She had authored the WHO’s Report on Infectious Diseases on antimicrobial resistance. She had run communications for the HIV/AIDS Department at WHO Geneva, managing a team responsible for how the organization’s vaccine messaging reached policymakers, donors, and the public worldwide. She is not anti-vaccine. She said so explicitly, and the distinction matters. She is a 64- year-old communications professional, journalist, and artist from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, who spent four decades working in human rights and women’s rights, including deployments to Afghanistan and Yemen for USAID. She co- authored The Hillary Doctrine: Sex and American Foreign Policy with Valerie M. Hudson, a book that won a Prose Prize and a Kirkus Starred Review. She served as a speechwriter for Yemeni Nobel Laureate Tawakkol Karman. She has spoken at the Annapolis War College. And she was destroyed by a vaccine the WHO promoted. What She Knew Before She Took the Shot Leidl told the inquiry that she had been suspicious of the COVID narrative from the beginning. She was listening to the CBC announce daily death tolls, and she knew the numbers needed to be contextualized as a rate per 100,000. When you did that math, she said, the death rate was, in fact, similar to seasonal flu. She took the vaccine anyway. She was between contracts, up for a job in Europe, and she needed to be vaccinated to travel. The coercion was practical, not ideological. She received the second. Seven days after that, she woke up in pain, got out of bed, and collapsed on the floor. The Irony She Brought to the Inquiry Here is the detail the National Post did not quote, and it is the one that matters most. When a member of Parliament asked Leidl about her work at WHO, she described the publications she had drafted. One of them was the State of the World Vaccines, published in 2002. And while writing that book, she wrote a section on coronavirus. Her assessment at the time, based on the established institutional knowledge: was that there could never be an effective vaccine against a coronavirus because it mutates too quickly. She told the inquiry that she was very surprised when there was suddenly a vaccine for a coronavirus. Most vaccines take between seven and fifteen years to come to market. This one came in six months, on a novel mRNA platform, for a virus that presumably mutates too quickly for a vaccine to be effective. This is not a layperson’s speculation. This is the woman the UN, World Health Organization, hired to write about vaccine science, telling a parliamentary inquiry that the institutional knowledge she was paid to communicate said the very thing the institution later discarded. The WHO published her work. The WHO knew coronavirus vaccines were considered unworkable. The WHO promoted one anyway. What Happened to Her The list of symptoms Leidl described is long, and she is precise about each one. A racing heart. Swollen face, hands, and feet. Every nerve ending in her body seeming to shrink with pain. A migraine that lasted a year. She is almost completely deaf in her right ear. She developed POTS, which she had never heard of before. She went from 130 pounds to 200 pounds within two months. She developed boils from her neck to her knees. Her period returned 12 years after menopause. Her breasts swelled three sizes, which has not normalized. She has bilateral tendinopathy, arteriosclerosis, light sensitivity, tinnitus, chronic gastritis, and cognitive decline. She was, the week before the vaccine, an extreme hiker. She had completed a 26-day trek. The week after, she could barely walk. She has spent approximately $250,000 over five years trying to get well, on hyperbaric oxygen therapy, physiotherapy, supplements, PRP injections, lumbar injections, spinal injections, and pain clinic treatment, most of it not covered by insurance. She had to forfeit the job in Europe. What the Medical System Knew Leidl described an encounter with a physician who specialized in women’s health. When Leidl told her about the post-menopausal bleeding and the breast swelling, the physician said: “Oh, well, you know, that’s happening to everyone. The train has left the station on that one.” This was specifically about the vaccine. The doctor was telling Leidl that many of her patients were presenting with the same strange symptoms. Leidl, who had worked on a WHO publication about vaccines, said she had never heard of any vaccine producing these kinds of reactions. The system knew. A specialist in women’s health was seeing a pattern across her patients, and her response was to dismiss it as normal, as something everyone was experiencing, as a train that had already left the station. The implication is staggering: the medical system was collecting evidence of widespread vaccine injury in real time, and its response was to normalize it rather than report it. Leidl said a report was sent to Health Canada, but she described the broader environment as one in which physicians were afraid to speak. She referenced the Health Care and Occupations Act, which she said criminalizes physicians and health care workers who spread what the government deems misinformation, with penalties including de-licensing and up to six months in jail. The Social Cost of Telling the Truth Leidl described what happened when she insisted her injury was a vaccine reaction, something confirmed by several doctors. Friends chose not to believe her, even when she was unrecognizable and could not walk. Journalism colleagues disassociated from her. She became, in her words, socially contaminated. She told the inquiry she realized when she testified at the National Citizens Inquiry that she would probably never get hired again for anything. But she felt it was important to tell the truth. There was too much gaslighting going on, she said. She experienced personal humiliation and considerable degradation while seeking care. She was told her symptoms were a mental health episode, even as she was swelling to 200 pounds and developing boils across her torso. She spent four decades in human rights work, specifically women’s rights. People she had known for decades defined her as a right-wing nut because she had a vaccine injury and was vocal about it. She described the environment as dystopian, one in which it takes very little to divide people, where fear determines reality, and where entire families and communities were fractured. The Institution That Knew and Looked Away The story of Patricia Leidl is not a whistleblower story. She did not sit in WHO meetings during COVID and watch decisions get made. She left the organization in 2009. She does not claim to have inside knowledge of how WHO’s COVID policy was formulated. What she has is something more specific and, in some ways, more damning. She has the institutional record on vaccines. She wrote it. The WHO’s own publications, drafted by a woman they hired for her expertise in vaccine communications, said that coronavirus vaccines could not work because coronaviruses mutate too quickly. It was the official position of the WHO. And then it was abandoned purely for political reasons. The science remained the same. The woman who wrote that institutional knowledge was then coerced by circumstance into taking a vaccine her own publication said should not work, and when it destroyed her, the institution that employed her looked the other way. The medical system that treated her told her it was happening to everyone. The friends and colleagues who should have supported her called her a right-wing nut. The confirm it. Patricia Leidl is not the first person this happened to. But She may be the most credentialed, or at least most ironic.
