Public Record
Senior White House adviser Peter Navarro is calling for Dr. Anthony
government's former top infectious disease official of helping conceal
the origins of COVID-19 and promoting pandemic policies that cost
American lives.
In "Why Fauci MUST Rot in Prison," published by Skyhorse and
released this week, Navarro lays out what he describes as a prosecutorial
case against Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of
Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Navarro labels Fauci the "Godfather of the Pandemic." The book
includes a foreword by former Trump strategist Stephen K. Bannon.
Navarro alleges Fauci's agency helped finance dangerous coronavirus
research at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology through the nonprofit
EcoHealth Alliance, failed to adequately oversee that research and
subsequently worked to discredit suggestions that COVID-19 originated
in a laboratory.

The book also attacks Fauci's handling of lockdowns, school closures,
mask mandates, vaccine recommendations and COVID-19 treatments,
particularly hydroxychloroquine, which Navarro championed during
President Donald Trump's first administration.
Navarro argues that government officials suppressed potentially
lifesaving early treatments while favoring pharmaceutical products and
vaccination campaigns.
He raises the possibility of criminal liability, including involuntary
manslaughter or homicide, although those accusations have not been
established in court.
The book's central feature is Navarro's comparison of his own
contemporaneous records with Fauci's private diaries and other
documents, which Navarro contends expose discrepancies between
Fauci's private knowledge and public statements.
The publication follows Fauci's dramatic July 29 appearance before the
Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where
he invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more
than 100 times during questioning about pandemic decisions and
federal research funding.
"On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer," Fauci
repeatedly told lawmakers.
Committee Chairman Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., questioned why Fauci
would invoke that protection after receiving a sweeping preemptive
pardon from President Joe Biden on Jan. 19, 2025.
The pardon covered potential federal offenses from January 2014
through Biden's final days in office related to Fauci's government
service.
Biden maintained the pardon was intended to protect Fauci from
politically motivated prosecution, not to suggest wrongdoing.
Paul challenged Fauci's refusal to answer and threatened contempt
proceedings.
Legal experts have noted that Biden's pardon does not cover future
offenses, including potentially false testimony, and that constitutional
questions remain concerning Fauci's Fifth Amendment protections.
Fauci's congressional troubles extend back to investigations by the
Republican-led House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus
Pandemic.
Republican investigators accused federal health officials of insufficiently
overseeing taxpayer-funded research in Wuhan, questioned Fauci's
statements about gain-of-function experiments and investigated
whether scientists were encouraged to dismiss the laboratory-origin
theory.
A 2024 Republican staff memorandum also challenged aspects of
Fauci's testimony concerning pandemic guidance and research
oversight.
Democrats on the subcommittee disputed the allegations, concluding
investigators had not established that Fauci orchestrated a laboratory-
leak cover-up or that federally funded research caused the pandemic.
Fauci has consistently denied wrongdoing.
Navarro, an economist and longtime Trump policy adviser, served as
White House Defense Production Act policy coordinator during the
pandemic, helping oversee efforts to secure medical supplies.
He repeatedly clashed with Fauci over treatments, restrictions, and
public health recommendations.
His new book has attracted endorsements from prominent Fauci critics.
Bannon calls it a "legal-thriller ride," while physician Peter McCullough
praises Navarro's firsthand account of battling the pandemic response.
Virologist Robert Malone says Navarro assembled diaries, emails and
dates into a case that readers should examine, while epidemiologist
Harvey Risch praises the book's challenge to official treatment policies.
The endorsements also include Children's Health Defense CEO Mary
Holland, commentator Jack Posobiec and former Trump administration
medical adviser Steven Hatfill.
Navarro's allegations arrive amid continuing disputes over the
pandemic's origins and federal accountability. However, neither Fauci's
invocation of constitutional protections nor the congressional
accusations establishes criminal guilt.
For Navarro, the book represents an effort to secure the legal reckoning
he believes Fauci has avoided.
For Fauci, it marks another chapter in a political and scientific
controversy that continues years after the pandemic began.
